"Knit for Community"

Our 'Knit for Community' project began as a result of lockdown following the outbreak of Covid.  Since April over four hundred volunteers from across the UK have taken part, either through knitting, donating wool or sewing up, and we are enormously grateful to all involved.  Many of our knitters have enjoyed having a positive focus during these difficult months, and we are delighted to have produced over 130 blankets and over 50 lap blankets, with more 'on the way'.  We are raising funds for the five charities listed above through this auction, as well as presenting each charity with either blankets or lap blankets.

Each blanket takes over 100 hours to complete, and each one is unique.  The blanket design is created by the volunteer who is sewing the squares together.  There may be the odd ‘dropped stitch’ along the way but the blankets are incredibly special, as shown by the photos.

Our sincere thanks to all our volunteers including the League of Remembrance and Loving Hands charities, viewers/readers of East Midlands Today, the Leicester Mercury and Let's Knit Magazine, members/friends of 32 Livery Companies, our local communities and many more.  A special mention to residents of our Cottage Homes in Oadby - in addition to knitting over 1,000 squares and donating blankets they have produced our Leicester City Football Club and Leicester Tigers blankets.

To close - a quote from one of our knitters that struck home when we received it - "It just reminds me that each of us can't do much but TOGETHER we can".  Thank you.

Bids, information & donations

Updates:  this web page and our FWK Facebook page will be updated daily with the current highest bids.

Sizing: the blankets are roughly single duvet size but please check the individual sizing on each blanket.

Reserve: the reserve on each blanket is £50 plus p&p - please bid often and bid high to enable us to raise a good sum for our five very worthy charities.  Please do not send any money for a blanket until you are told that yours is the final successful bid.

Postage: this will be an extra charge with a maximum of £10.  We will try and deliver 'in person' where possible.

Donations: trying to create multiple Just Giving pages for five charities was 'one stage too far' for us!  If you would like to make a donation to any of the charities we are supporting please visit their websites (click on the links below).

"The supporters blankets"

We are  delighted to have two specially themed blankets for supporters of Leicester City Football Club and Leicester Tigers Rugby Club.  Both blankets have been knitted by the residents of our Cottage Homes in Oadby, and sewn up by Hazel who lives near Rothley.  The proceeds of the sale of these blankets will be donated to Action Homeless in Leicester and we hope to raise a great sum for such an important local charity - please bid generously!  To see a larger image please click on the blanket.
